Celebrating 60 Years Since 1960
(Page last updated: May 8th, 2020)

(MAY 8TH, 2020)

It is plainly apparent that the degree of uncertainty surrounding the probable status of the COVID-19 pandemic and the related restrictions on social activities we will be facing in September is now every bit as high as it has ever been. And since we are all senior citizens, we are all at high risk, Therefore, whether we can safely hold our reunion as currently planned remains "iffy." (Everyone knows you can't hold a proper reunion without dancing — and hugging!)

We are carefully monitoring developments, and we will make an announcement by early August, on this page and by mail, if a decision made to cancel. Rest assured, if this happens, we will continue to monitor the situation and consider rescheduling the reunion when deemed safe.

OH! But How Can we "reunionate" properly without DANCing AND hugging?
We Can't!

REunion reSCHEDULED FOR SEPTEMBER:  After carefully monitoring the rapidly evolving Coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19) outbreak, we decided it would be imprudent for us accept the risks and anxiety associated with any further delay in our decision about the timing of our planned reunion. So it has now been rescheduled for Saturday evening, September 12, 2020. You will be receiving more details in the mail in April from Reunions Unlimited, Inc., and from time-to-time from me by email and here on our website.

IMPORTANT! Those of you who have made room reservations for June at the Marriott or elsewhere should cancel them to avoid being charged and wait for further notice about new room block arrangements before booking for September. (See Lodging accommodations, below.)

Hoping you all stay vigilant, safe and well and that we see each other in September for our next fabulous celebration this time, of sixty years since our graduation!

Reunion registration, cost and payment: The reunion will be priced at $95 per person, including a complete sit-down dinner with three choices of entrées, a DJ (playing our music) and there will be a cash bar.

You will asked by Reunions Unlimited, Inc. in  April for payment by August 12th. If paid after August 12th, the cost will be  increased to $105 per person unless payment was delayed because of the then continuing Coronavirus threat. A $5 "convenience fee" will be added to all credit card payments.

Even if you want to wait as long as possible to pay to attend our reunion, your early registration for our reunion, without payment, helps us plan for the probable attendance level and will make sure we have all your most current contact information ("snailmail," e-mail and telephone) so you receive all future reunion and other class communications and so we can continue to help our classmates find each other. If we decide (or the State of NY or the Marriott decides) it is unsafe, or if there are insufficient registrants, to hold the reunion, we will announce a cancellation by August 12th. Please be assured that your money will be fully refunded if the reunion is cancelled, or if you decide to cancel your paid reservation by August 28th, due to the coronavirus threat. (If paid reservations are cancelled by August 28th for reasons other than the Coronavirus threat, you will nevertheless be entitled to receive a 50% refund.)

So once again, even if you are undecided about attending or do not plan to attend our eighth (and probably our last) fabulous class reunion, please register with Reunions Unlimited, Inc. as soon as possible.

To register for our reunion, visit www.reunions-unlimited.com, scroll down to where it says, “Register for Your Reunion,” at the lower left, and follow the prompts.

Pre- and Post-Reunion Events: Like we have done seven times before for our other reunions, we have planned to be together again one more time to remember and celebrate with a fabulous, fun-filled weekend of “reunionating” with old friends dancing, dining, drinking and reminiscing sharing joyful and youthful memories.

To summarize, in addition to the “main event” on Saturday night described above, we have arranged for space to be reserved for us, first on Friday night to help us get reacquainted at a pre-reunion cocktail party in a comfortable lounge, and then for a post-reunion breakfast in a fine Long Island diner* on Sunday morning.

Click here for details of what we have planned.

(This is the only photo we have from our 1970 reunion.)

2010, and

And you are invited!

All are welcome  to attend these extra events if you will be in the area

whether you plan to attend our main event or not!

Except as noted below,* no advance registration or payment is required to attend these

pre- and post-reunion events (you will each pay for whatever you order).

Since Long Island diners are typically crowded on Sunday mornings, if you plan to attend, we will ask you to indicate it, along with whether you will bring a guest, on a sign-in sheet to be distributed Saturday night, or if you won’t be at our main event, that you email me on Saturday.

Lodging accommodations: We will be arranging for a new limited group room block at the at a guaranteed discounted rate. And for those who prefer less expensive (but nevertheless reasonably high rated) accommodations, we will attempt to arrange for another limited group room block at a substantially lower guaranteed discounted rate at the Holiday Inn Plainview, 215 Sunnyside Blvd., Plainview, NY 11803, which is less than 3 miles away, near exit 46 on I-495 (the LIE). So watch for future announcements. Both room blocks will be limited and will likely expire on August 6th, 2020, if not used up by then. After that, there is no telling what rooms will be available or at what price or what quality.

We have also identified a third, less expensive, budget-priced alternative that has good customer reviews and that may have rooms available if you book early enough. It is the Whitman Motor Lodge, 295 E. Jericho Turnpike (just east of Rte 110), Huntington Station, NY 11746. (We will not have a room block set aside at this property.)

Since since hotel room reservations already made for the for June, or reservations made between March 13th and June 30th for September, cancellable up to 24 hours in advance, time is of the essence!  And room blocks will likely be used up quickly once announced. Accordingly, we strongly recommend that you make your reservation as early as you can once you receive information about our reserved room blocks or no later than June 30th even if you are not sure if you will be attending our reunion. But in the event lower rates become available due to the volatile effect of the pandemic on hotel occupancy, we recommend you check back periodically after you make your reservation as we approach the reunion date. Similar policies are likely in effect for the other hotels.

  • To reserve a room at the Marriott:  Visit https://www.marriott.com/event-reservations/reservation-
, or call the hotel directly at 631/423-1600 (best NOT to call the Marriott central reservations no.), and refer to the Oceanside 1960 event on 9/12/20.

  • To reserve a room at the Holiday Inn: Visit www.holidayinn plainview.com, and enter  the code, OCN, in the “Group Code” section of the booking screen, or call either 866/249-3515 or central reservations at 855/862-4911, and refer to the Oceanside HS Class of 1960 event on 9/12/20.

  • To reserve a room at the Whitman Motor Lodge (at the then going rate): Call the hotel at  631/271-2800.

Air Travel: Unfortunately, the reactions of airlines to the COVID-19 threat with respect to refunds and waivers of penalties for flight changes/cancellations have been inconsistent and changing daily. Some airlines, such as American and Delta, were originally offering relief only for tickets purchased on or before early March for travel thru April 30th. JetBlue's policies have been more flexible and generous: change/cancel fees for ravel through May 31st and for all new bookings made from March 27th through April 30th for travel through January 4,th 2021, will be waived. The latest flight change/cancellation policy information for most airlines can be found online at  https://www.forbes.com/sites/advisor/
, but if you have not yet bought a ticket, it is best to check directly with the airline.

Although the volume of air travel has been reduced, so have the number of available flights; therefore, we would recommend you book your flight as soon as possible once you can determine that you are adequately protected against losses for virus-related cancellations or changes.

Questions?: If you don't receive an invitation by mail from Reunions Unlimited, Inc. requesting payment by late April, or if you have any reunion questions, send an email to me or to Reunions Unlimited, Inc. Please DO NOT post questions or messages on Classmates.com as your question may not get noticed.

And watch for future announcements of reunion details from Reunions Unlimited, Inc., or from us, in your "snailmail," in your e-mail inbox, on Facebook or in this space.

We hope to see all of you there — and healthy!

And if you join us, plan to take lots of pictures!
